Word on the Street - Cupcake ATMs (Seriously!)

By now we've all seen or taken part in the cupcake craze that's made all things cupcake all the rage.  And just when there were murmurs within the food industry that the cupcake bubble was about to burst, the famed Sprinkles bakery announces that cupcake addicts can now get their fix 24/7 by patronizing the bakery's cupcake vending machine.  In a move that would make the vending machine-obsessed Japanese proud, the first machine will launch on March 9 in Sprinkles' Beverly Hills flagship store, with nine more machines going into operation by the summer.  These first ten machines will be located within Sprinkles stores themselves, with plans for future machines to be installed in remote areas away from the stores.  Getting your fix whenever you want will come at a (higher) price though, as cupcakes from the vending machine will cost you $4.00 a cupcake instead of the $3.50 Sprinkles charges if you buy it in the store.  True believers probably won't mind shelling out the extra change, and those looking for a sweet snack on the run now have more to choose from than the tired old candy bars languishing in standard vending machines.

So to my LA-based friends and readers, circle March 9 on the calendar and give E.A.T. the verdict on cupcake ATMs!  (And in case you need help deciding, I vote for Red Velvet Cake :)

  1. 10 bucks and a cupcake says their revenue will peak between the hours of 2 and 4 am.

  4. oh not to worry, this isn't your standard vending machine business model: 600 cupcakes stocked per day!

  5. We need one here! As long as it's just far enough away yet close enough for me to jog off the exact # of calories each time I visited.
